Job Title: Insurance Underwriter
Requirements for Employment:
• License & Ongoing Education: Must have, or be able to acquire, necessary licensure and certifications for property/casualty industry.
• Decision Making: Must be skilled in using reason, experience, and knowledge to make sound, efficient, profitable, and compliant coverage/pricing decisions. Ability to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
• Analytical: Able to collect and analyze data to make sound underwriting decisions.
• Attention to Detail: Highly focused, thorough, and accurate, placing a high value on the importance and role of each detail in the underwriting process.
• Interpersonal Skills: Develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with co-workers, agency personnel and others involved in the underwriting process.
• Technical Skills: Applied knowledge of computer systems and mathematics with demonstrated proficiency in office software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Job Description:
• Screen and evaluate opportunities and current risks based on underwriting guidelines.
• Analyzes information provided on new business quotes or renewals.
• Manages workload with a high degree of efficiency and accuracy.
• Provides detailed documentation of conversations and underwriting decisions in Finys.
• Proactively communicates with agency personnel, field representatives, and others to obtain and provide necessary, pertinent information.
• Identify loss hazards and recommend loss control measures to mitigate risk.
• Determines appropriate coverages, limits, conditions, and premium.
• Analyzes policy forms and endorsements to determine and recommend coverages to agents and policyholders.
• Participates in agency visits to build and strengthen relationships.
