Requirements for Employment: 

Committed, practicing Christian with good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with an earnest desire to serve Jesus in the area of children and youth ministry, some relevant ministry experience/education, successful completion of a background check.

Job Description: 

The Family Ministry Director will organize, lead, and inspire the ministry of Science Hill Community Church with
children from birth through high school and their families.

The Family Ministry Director is expected to be a committed, practicing Christian with the ability to form and
maintain positive relationships with the members of the congregation as well as the neighboring community.
The Director should be a highly motivated, self-starter who is able to work in a collegial setting with other
staff. The Director must also have a demonstrated ability to foresee and proactively resolve problems within the
area of his/her job-related responsibilities with a minimal amount of direct, day-to-day supervision. Therefore, the
Director must be able to plan his/her own schedule and be available for assigned programs as outlined below.

Organize: The Family Ministry Director will evaluate and organize the components of our ministry with children and
youth and their families. Specifically, this will include...
- Serving on the Christian Education Committee to prayerfully plan and strategically implement the ministry.
- Communicating with the congregation through the newsletter, bulletin and Sunday announcements.
- Coordinating the calendar of children and youth ministry events among the various committees and church office.
- Previewing and reviewing curriculum and ministry ideas.
- Organizing and “de-cluttering” areas of ministry, discarding old/dated items and re-stocking with fresh/needed items.

Lead: The Family Ministry Director will lead by recruiting, screening, training and scheduling volunteers in the areas of
children and youth ministry. In particular, this means...
- Determining the upcoming needs of our ministry with children and youth (classes, times, etc.) in such areas as the
Nursery, Junior Church, Sunday School, Kindness Club, Youth Group, etc. and staff for those needs.
- Encouraging volunteers from the congregation to work in the area of children and youth ministry.
- Administering the Child Protection Policy, including background checks, to ensure there is a sufficient pool of properly
screened and trained teachers and volunteers.
- Meeting with teachers and prospective teachers for safety issues and teacher training.
- Ensuring that teachers are rotated to avoid burn-out.
- Leading by example in the teaching of classes and small groups.
- Helping to recruit and work with leaders of children and youth ministry to make sure both are functional and healthy.
- Coordinating screened child care providers for special events (i.e WOW Retreat, etc.) and holiday services.
- Appropriate Visitations/Counseling when children, youth or their immediate families are involved in crisis or need
- Maintenance of Youth Mailing List, E-mailing/text list, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
- Receive ministry training/attend workshops as appropriate and available. Financial support may be provided.

Inspire: The Family Ministry Director will serve as an advocate for children and youth ministry at Science Hill Community
Church and consider ways to grow our effectiveness in this area, such as...
- Praying for our children, youth, parents, teachers, the ministry and our church.
- Helping children and youth prepare for active roles in church membership and citizens of Christ’s Kingdom.
- Promoting and encouraging participation in the ministries of the church for children and youth
- Providing information for camps and encouraging camp ministry participation.
- Communicating with children and youth on their special days – birthdays, back to school time, graduations, etc.
- Looking for ways to strengthen and support the young families of our church and community.
- Helping make Baptism and Confirmation special occasions for families to celebrate.
- Celebrate births within the church family and community.
- Helping publicize and promote our children and youth ministry offerings, such as press releases and posters.
- Writing letters of reference for youth members of our congregation.
- Keep in touch with youth group alumni and help bridge them into our young adult ministries
- Maintain Personal Spiritual Health and Growth

Estimated 20 hours per week, with weekly schedule flexibility in consideration of longer seasonal events.
